An efficient Personal Assistant (PA) is sought to assist the Director of the Centre for Bioprocess Engineering Research (CeBER). The position is housed within the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCT, which provides a dynamic and exciting research, teaching and learning environment. CeBER is a research intensive, cross-

disciplinary environment, hosting some sixty members, including academics, research and administrative staff, postdoctoral fellows, PhD and Masters students as well as the national SARChI research chair in Bioprocess Engineering. CeBER invites applications from enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals for appointment as a personal assistant.

Requirements:  A tertiary qualification or proven equivalent experience which would equal 8 years’ in a similar

environment, a minimum of five years’ experience in the work place.  Secretarial or equivalent experience, with demonstrable secretarial skills;  Proficiency in a selection of the following: word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, database

management, electronic mail, Internet and graphics;

 A demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently, in order of priority and autonomously;  Ability to work as part of a team to maximise the team performance;  Demonstrated professionalism in inter-personal skills in dealing with a range of constituencies, a

willingness to learn new skills and to take on new challenges. Recommendations:

 PeopleSoft and SAP R/3 skills are highly recommended.

Responsibilities:

 PA tasks such as correspondence, diary management, meeting schedules, organising functions and travel, minute taking, preparing documents and presentations;

 “Front desk” role for the Centre for Bioprocess Engineering Research;  General administration, filing systems, the CeBER diary, CeBER records etc.;  Research partner interaction, including interaction with university, industrial and government personnel;

 Assistance with compilation of research grant applications and reporting, including electronic submissions.
