Department of Correctional Services Learnership

The DCS is looking for persons from various communities, interests and appropriate qualifications to enter into Further Education and Training Certificate in Corrections Services Learnership (NQF Level 4). The learners will be trained in the areas of rehabilitation of offenders through correction and human development in secure, safe and humane detention or under the community based correctional supervision. English will be used as the medium of instruction. The opportunity to acquire skills, knowledge and workplace experience in the field of Corrections and earn a stipend of R 3500. 00 for the twelve months duration of the learnership.

Requirements and Duties:


>>South Africans who are in possession of the Grade 12/Standards 10

>>South Africans who have successfully completed the National Certificate in Vocational Studies (NQF Level 4)

>>South Africans who have successfully completed a further Education and Training Certificate NQF (Level 4)

>>Are least 18-35 years

>>Have strong character



>>This Learnership comprises ± 30% of work which is theory or instructional learning and ± 70% which is workplace learning in nature.

>>The learnership is outcome-based and is intended to contribute towards addressing the skills shortage in South Africa.

>>The Corrections Services Learnership is based on a legally binding agreement between the employer, learner and service provider

>>A ±30% intensive instructional learning theory which is inclusive of firearm, physical training and self defense will take place at designated accredited DCS colleges. Furthermore free accommodation meals, training material, uniform (field wear & tracksuit) shall be provided during this training phase. The obligatory theoretical training requires the learner to be strictly accommodated on

>>This is a ± 70% workplace learning that shall take place at the Correctional and Social Reintegration Centres.

>>During this phase, learners shall continue receiving a stipend. The learners shall be responsible for accommodation, meals and transport.

Make sure that you do not leave empty spaces and the application must be signed by the applicant (not by a proxy, agent not representative of the applicant). Attach certified copies of your certificates and Identity document that are not older than 3 months. No late, incomplete or unsigned application forms shall be accepted.

Furthermore, photocopies of completed forms, faxed or e-mailed applications shall not be accepted. Taking into consideration that you have to provide your own transport and accommodation during your experiential learning, you are therefore advised to apply for learnership enrolment within the Regional Management Area close to where you stay.
